Marriage Ref

Okay, so Brian and I are having a disagreement about something and need a marriage ref! So read the arguments and tell us who is the winner! Here's the scoop.

My side: When we were going over our China expenses, I saw that one particular store totaled more than I thought, so I asked Brian about it. He told me that he bought something for me, and that's why it was more than I thought.

A few days later, I was preparing for my Young Women's lesson, and asked Brian if he knew where there were some highlighters. He told me to go in the second drawer in his office desk. So we walked in there TOGETHER, and he was standing right next to me when I opened the drawer. Right next to the highlighters was a pink box that I recognized from the jewelry stores in China. I asked him what it was, and he said it was my gift and I couldn't look at it. I was thinking that Mother's Day was coming up, so I only had a couple weeks to find out what it is. So, I thought I'd tough it out.

Then, I go back a few days later to put the highlighters back and the box is still there! I told him how annoyed I was that not only did he do a crappy job of hiding it, but he led me right to it, AND, he doesn't even bother to re-hide it now that I know where it is.

So, Mother's Day comes, and he gets me a foot soaker. I do really like it, and I did mention a long time ago that I'd like one someday so I could do my own pedicures. So he does get points for that. But, I am frustrated that I don't know what's in that box! I told Brian I was going to go up there one of these days and if it's still there, I'm going to look inside the box. I went in there yesterday and it's still there. I shook the box, just to make sure he wasn't really being a jerk and playing a trick on me.

Just now he told me he moved it, so I called his bluff and told him I was going up there and if it was still there, I was going to open it. He wouldn't let me in the room.

Brian's side: He claims that at Christmas, you know where your gifts are but don't look at them. My counter to that is that the gifts aren't out for two whole months before Christmas! And, this one isn't wrapped.

I went to the grocery store on Tuesday, and their soda was on sale, so I bought him a 2 liter of Cream Soda for his birthday, which is in two weeks. When I came home, I was kind of in a hurry b/c I had to take Jayden to his survival swim class, so I quickly put it in the closet of the downstairs bedroom and left the rest of the groceries on the counter and left.

Just my luck, like an hour after Jayden's lesson, (before I had a chance to hide it better) he needed something totally random that was in the closet. I went in there to get it b/c I knew the soda was in there, but he followed me in there! So now, he thinks we are even, because I hid a present from him that he knows about, and he hid a present from me that I know about.

So, we need you all to tell us who is right!! I think I should get to open my gift, and he still has to get me another birthday gift, because he did such a crappy job hiding it and is rubbing it in my face. He thinks we're even because of the soda. Before he even knew what it was, I offered to exchange gifts and start fresh, and he said no.

We need help!!! Leave a comment and tell us what you think!

Cami wins! Seriously--how can you compare soda with jewelry??? He definitely should've hid the box better to begin with. If he doesn't want to give it to you now he needs to re-hide it. I would be going crazy if I were you Cami!

Well, well, well.... I agree that I should have hid it better but getting to open the present and then get a new one for your birthday is.... ah...well...crazy. I don't see how those two are related.

A vote for me earns you ice cream when I see you next! You may want to rethink sending Christmas presents early to the Turner house as some people might feel tempted to open them early...:)

Bribery is NOT ALLOWED BRIAN! Me getting to open the present before my birthday is a natural consequence! You should have to deal with the situation you created for yourself!

I can't believe that you-Cami waited so long without peeking. It was his fault for letting you see it to begin with. Taking a glance wouldn't be snooping, he led you right to it. You are partly to blame because if you just peeked like I told you too, it wouldn't be bothering you this much.

I am amused :) Can you seriously wait 8 more days til the survey ends to see if you win?

And: this is why I don't shop early. Then I just end up gifting early and I have to start over.

I think you should sock wrestle for it :P

i thought you should have bought the soda, set it on the counter but said he can't have it until his birthday! my opinion, just get the present early and call it good, he did a good thing by thinking of your birthday early, not so good by letting you see it for weeks but shouldn't have to buy another present for your birthday! and i would have opened it by now:)

That's a tough one! Your b-day is over a month away and that's a LONG time to wait once you've seen the box. Hum...I can't decide. I must be a bad ref. :)

Mom thinks Cami should not be allowed to open the box. But Cami does have the edge because Brian KNOWS what his present is (and we hope you will something more than a 2-liter of soda for his birthday, come on!) and you don't know what yours is. It could be a petrified beetle for all we know in that box. You should consider the box as wrapping. Turner boys don't wrap presents. Ever.
I (Kevin) am also on Brian's side. I'll be waiting for my ice cream on August 18, 2010.

Well, clearly, it's not even yet--Brian has seen the cream soda and knows exactly what it is. Therefore, Cami should be able to see the jewelry as well, even if she can't actually use it until her birthday. So, i think I'm on Cami's side here.

You two crack me up. And, seriously, get better hiding places, guys!! =)
