Yesterday was quite a day for us! Jayden had a tummy ache the night before/is teething, so he was up almost every three hours at night, and during the day the only thing I could do to get him to stop crying is to go for a drive in the car. Of course as soon as I came back home he would wake up/start crying again. Poor little guy... So that made for one set of exhausted parents to start off.
We left to go close on our house at about 1 pm, and since it was a good 30 miles from our house, he finally fell asleep-and thank goodness he slept through the whole house closing process! Since he was still asleep we ran over to Claim Jumper to grab a quick something to eat and to celebrate! 30 minutes later we were driving over to Brian's wrestling match, which was like 8 miles from the Title company. We were thinking how wonderful life was, how lucky we were that Jayden was finally sleeping, and how awesome it was that we could do all these things right after the other without being rushed, late, or waiting around on the complete opposite side of town. Little did we know what was in store for us...
Jayden woke up on our way to the wrestling match, and was pretty happy, considering how crabby he had been previously. However, it was so loud and distracting in there that he wouldn't eat and I couldn't find any semi-quiet place to feed him, so as time went on he got fussier and fussier.
Finally, the match was over, and so we packed up to go home. As soon as we got on the highway, all the warning lights in the car started coming on, and the radio & dashboard lights started dimming, the wipers stopped working (did I mention it was raining?), and all the needles in the car started freaking out like the Twilight Zone.
We pulled off the highway, found a very close Pep Boys (thank you iPhone) and crossed our fingers we would make it as our car started shaking. We got to the corner of Pep Boys when the car died.
A homeless guy came to help us push the car into the gas station, which was very nice. After we got the car out of traffic, this lady came up and asked us if we had a cigarette, and after we said no, the homeless guy started rambling about how he doesn't smoke cigarettes, only cocaine, and unfortunately, he doesn't have any.
At this point, Brian decides to leave me and Jayden in the car (Jayden was asleep again and it was still raining) and run across the street to Pep Boys. Once in Pep Boys, the clerk refuses to come across the street and help because "insurance won't cover me if I'm off Pep Boys property". What a butt!
Luckily, after Brian reminded them that his wife and 6 month old baby were in the car and asked again if someone could come help, a different employee said "I'll risk my life!", and came over. He had to jump our car twice to give us just enough juice to get us in the Pep Boys lot. Needless to say, I felt a whole lot safer inside Pep Boys!!
This story is becoming a lot longer than I intended, so I'll hurry and finish. In the end, the rubber in our Harmonic Stabilizer got all dried out, and the belt that turns the alternator so it will charge the battery came off. Whoo-hoo! A $450 whoo-hoo!
Luckily, Destiny was able to come and pick us up and bring us home. Hopefully they will be able to finish the car today so we can go pick it up tonight.
Phew! What a long day! In the end, we realize that things could have been a whole lot worse. We are grateful Heavenly Father was watching out for us and are aware that it could have been a whole lot longer and more expensive of a day.
We hope the bank wires the money quickly today so the county can record the sale, and then we will get the keys! We will keep you posted!
