China vol. 5 "Wet Market"

We went to the wet market the other day for some fresh fruits & veggies. Here are some very interesting pictures! Brian and Carrie are going to help me come up with some captions so here we go!!!

All in all, it was a very interesting experience. Makes me think twice about eating out...

China vol. 4: McDonald's, KFC, Walmart, & Guy on Bike

We went to Walmart today, and saw some pretty interesting things along the way!

Here we are entering Walmart! It was pretty big, with two levels. We got Brian a pair of nice dress shoes and had fun trying to figure out what size shoe to ask for. Of course, the iPhone came to the rescue!

Going up the escalator..most of the groceries were on the lower level, and the upper level had clothes, housewares, electronics, and everything else.

Everywhere here delivers..and I really mean everywhere...and they use bikes! Carrie gets her ice delivered, and it costs about $1.50. She had some groceries delivered too without an additional charge. Here are the bikes that KFC and McDonald's use to deliver with.

I even got an action shot! I'm sure he appreciated me taking a picture, but what's he gonna do about it?

Not only does everywhere deliver on bikes, but people go everywhere and use bikes for everything...even hauling out trash! We passed this guy on the way home from Walmart.

Then I got this picture out the back of the taxi after we passed him. You might have to click on the picture to see it better, as I can't crop and zoom in on this computer. I guess one of the pilots is collecting pictures of weird people and things on bikes, so I'll have to see if I can get some more pictures from him. It's pretty funny to see.

We'll, I've spent more than enough time on the computer blogging today, so that's it for now!

Crawling!

At 8 1/2 months, Jayden can crawl now! I knew it would be fairly soon, because before we left Vegas he was getting on all fours and would either scoot backwards, or just kind of sit there and move his arms, but not his legs. Then one day here in China he took two or three coordinated crawls forward, and then two or so days later he just did it! I took a really short video so it would post on my blog, but he is really moving now!

China vol. 3 "Hospital Visits"

So, about two weeks before we left Jayden got a pretty bad cough. I took him in and got some meds. He showed significant improvement, and continued to get better each day. Then, about a day before we left, I started to cough. It hit me pretty bad on the airplane, so by the time I got here Friday night I was pretty miserable.

So, on Saturday, I decided to go to a Dr. The company's secretary went with me to translate (it was a holiday weekend so the VIP doctors office-the ones that speak English-were closed). It's quite an interesting system. We went in to register, and they gave me a debit type card and a booklet, where they track my comings and goings. Hospitals and doctors don't keep track of your records-you keep track in your booklet and each time you go they fill in a new page.

I registered at the front desk, paid to see the Dr. and then went upstairs to the Dr.'s office. It's one room with a desk and a few chairs. I put my booklet at the bottom of the pile, and waited for my turn. When my booklet got to the top of the pile it was my turn. The Dr. needed a blood test, so I took my debit card thing and went downstairs to pay for the bloodwork, then went to the third floor to have my finger prick. Then the lab tech printed out my results and I took that paper back to the bottom of the pile in the Dr.'s office. After seeing the Dr. again, (the company's secretary that was translating for me wasn't sure what breastfeeding or nursing meant so I had some interesting hand gestures going on to try and explain that!) she wrote my prescription. Then I had to go back downstairs to pay for the prescription, and then over to the pharmacy.

It sounds like a long, drawn out process, but we were probably in and out in an hour and a half. I took Jayden in today to see the VIP Doctor because his cough was getting worse, and we were in and out in under and hour. I was especially shocked that I didn't have to wait at all for the pharmacy! They didn't waste any time printing out my name on the label and whatever else it is they do that takes 45 minutes-an hour every time. And, our visits cost less than $10 each, including the prescriptions! It was truly an experience! I could have done without the super hot sauna it was in there though, and it's only April!

China vol. 2 "Massages & Hair Washing"

Our second day here we went to get foot massages. They have these big over-sized chairs with ottomans. At first they bring you a big bucket of hot water and soak your feet while you sit on the ottoman and they massage your back, neck and arms. Then you sit back in the chair while they massage your feet and legs. It was an 80 minute massage, and we paid about $7 each!

The masseuse that Steve & Carrie really like (they all have numbers, she's #9) was busy when we first got there, but after she finished she came to see us and was so smitten by Jayden that she took him around the salon and held him for probably 20-30 minutes! He's such a novelty here, lots of people ooh and aah over such a blonde. blue eyed baby. Even at the Japanese restaurant we went to, they didn't have highchairs or anything, and he is so squirmy it was kinda tricky to try and eat while keeping his hands out of reach of everything, so one of the waitresses held him for a bit. It was so funny watching them talk to him-one of them pulled out her phone and was taking pictures.

Then yesterday Carrie and I went to a salon to get our hair washed. I know, sounds weird. One side of the salon is where the stylists cut your hair and the other side is where theassistants do the coloring, perms, manicures, etc. There were about 6-7 stylists, and a bunch of assistants. The assistants help with the coloring or perm or whatever, and then after the coloring, they take you to the back with the sinks, only instead of a chair there's a place for you to lay down while they wash your hair. So they wash your hair and massage your arms, back, and neck. Then the assistant brings you to the chair on the stylist side where they style or cut your hair. It was really nice except my girl massaged my back way too hard, I'm a little bit sore today.

China vol. 1 "Jet Lag"

Well we made it to China (barely)! The 14 hour flight was pretty rough, although Jayden did pretty well. The flight wasn't full, so we had two extra seats in our row to let Jayden lay down and sleep. He took a 2 hour nap at the beginning of the flight, and then later slept for almost 8 hours. Can't complain about that-however, enjoying a 14 hour flight is just not possible.

Here we are just arriving into Hong Kong with our luggage. Before you say anything, we brought 2 1/2 boxes of food and goodies for Carrie. We actually packed pretty light, considering we will be here for three weeks! (Brian is pulling Jayden behind him in the stroller).

This is our 2nd night here and I am trying so hard to stay awake. I fell asleep feeding Jayden and Carrie took a picture.

Trying to look alive...

This was last night, our fourth night here. We've been trying to keep him awake as much as possible during the day, which has been a struggle. In addition to trying to help an 8 month old transition through jet lag, his 2nd tooth popped through as well, which means he refuses to take a bottle, and has been a real treat to be around. ;) Not really, he's been a real trooper. I think everything hit him all at once last night, while we were trying to eat dinner. He just could not stay awake! I wanted to make sure he was full so he would sleep the majority of the night, but he just couldn't keep his eyes open.

He would rest his head on the table with his eyes half open, and when I'd bring the spoon closer he'd open his mouth and half swallow, still with his chin resting on the table. Poor guy! I have a video but it won't load thanks to the fact that the Chinese monitor the internet so I'll have to post it when I get home.

8 Months-a tooth!

Jayden is 8 months now! Time flies so fast! He just got his first tooth, and the others must be coming because he's still unhappy. Poor guy. I'll post a picture once he's happier about it.

Brian bought Jayden a squirt gun, and I already don't like it! Mostly because Brian won't stop squirting me with it! Obnoxious!

Waiting for Daddy, Uncle Kevie, and Great-Grandpa Don to finish golfing at the Turner Reunion in St. George last weekend. At one point I heard him laughing...you'll never guess what he was laughing at. He could see himself in the side mirror and thought that was super cool!

Grandma & Papa Young came for a few days over spring break. Here they are reading from Grandma's famous "Three Little Kittens" storybook. Jayden loved it, but towards the end of the story he began to find the hair on Papa's legs more interesting. I guess he's curious about it since he doesn't have ANY!!

This video is of Brian and Jayden wrestling with the giant teddy bear Grandma & Grandpa Turner bought him before he was born. He sure does love getting tackled by Daddy and/or the teddy bear! Good thing it's super soft without any plastic pieces!

The Quilt!!!

Okay, here is a picture of the finished product! Jill and I had a good time making it and even though certain parts nearly drove us crazy (the brown fur & the huge yarn mostly), I am so excited about it. For beginners, I think we did quite well!

Everything Else Florida

Okay, so here are pictures of the rest of our adventures in Florida! For those who don't know, my sister lives there, and Jayden and I went to visit for a few weeks! (I went last January also).

This is how Jayden spent the majority of his time at the airport. That big toe sure tastes yummy!

What a big boy in an airplane seat! And yes, I realize his pajamas are a little short-he has flown through all his 6-9 month clothing and is now in some 9 month, some 12 month. I just hope his weight slows down a little bit once he starts crawling so he won't grow out of his summer clothes before summer is over!

Roller skating...

Hannah was so helpful while I was there. Jayden is teething, which means lots of whining and sleepless nights, and she took care of him after his nap one day so I could finish mine!

Poor Chloe...The skates her size have locked wheels, so she basically walked around the rink with these heavy skates. She sure loved it though!

Paige is growing so tall! I can't believe she is in 5th grade!

Sorry Jill, I had to post this picture. Be grateful I didn't post any of the videos the girls took!

Jill was nice enough to let me take some of her old baby toys that Chloe doesn't use any more, but that meant getting them out of the attic. Here she is complaining about the unorganized attic and how "Nate is gonna hear about this!!!"

This is Hannah's "Fairy Bed" that I was lucky enough to get to sleep in. On Valentine's Day I got a Valentine gift from some fairies! I went to get in bed and noticed that there were some Valentine treats hidden in my pillowcase from Tinkerbell, Silvermist, Rosetta, Iridessa, and Fawn. What a wonderful surprise! I sure felt special sleeping in the Fairy Bed!

Yes, Jayden loved playing with the green netting!

This video is the best! The girls were so helpful with Jayden. Here Hannah is feeding Jayden. Unfortunately, she was less than impressed with his lack of interest in the baby food. Not only is she grumpy, but watch her mouth as she puts the spoon closer to Jayden's mouth. Classic.

Thanks girls for a fabulous trip! We miss you lots but love you more!

Jayden sure does love the park! For now he's content to watch everything and everyone and soak it all in, but it won't be long until he is everywhere and into everything! Here are some shots of his first trips to the park!
